May – June

Renewal. Or, when the grass grows - mow it!
Walking along the dirt road where I live the other
day, marveling at the green transformation spring has brought to this little piece of paradise where I live, I thought if someone were to see this place only in the winter months, he could never imagine what a celebration awaited just around the corner. Spring is such a beautiful season. It's like a promise, lying hidden in the heart of the forest, waiting to be fulfilled. As I walked, I couldn't help seeing my own life mirrored in every new leaf, every new song of the birds, every spring shower bringing freshness and a new shade of green to these trees. And the word that came to my mind was 'trust'.

So it is, at the end of every touring cycle of mine, the gap inevitably comes: my winter season. When I am in this gap, I can never imagine what the coming tours are going to be like: who will be playing, where the events will be happening, or the road will be taking me. And then, like this miracle of spring around me now, I find myself at an event somewhere in the world, in full celebration with the band and dancers, looking back wondering: Did I ever doubt I would be here again? Another tour, another miracle. It reminds me of a beautiful Sufi story Osho narrates about the river meeting the desert: How full of doubt the river is, never imagining what possibilities lie beyond the hot, desert sands. As the story goes, the desert inspires the river to face its fears, gather courage, trust and let-go. But, how could it possibly imagine it could become the clouds and one with the sky - only to rain and become a river again?

Since returning to the USA from Brasil in February, the past months for me have been about letting go, emptying myself of all the many experiences of the tours, while preparing the ground, creating space in myself, for something new. Spring came has come, though, and the new touring schedule through November is posted now. I will have wonderful musicians again with me this year. You can expect the music to be joyous and energetic. The events are an invitation to meditate, dance, love, and celebrate this miracle called Life. To put it another way: We are bringing the spring with us.

Finally, I would like to share a photo Gayan has sent from Brasil, from her beautiful archive of precious moments with Osho. I had never seen it before, so it was a wonderful gift to come across it. It was taken as Osho was leaving Portugual, returning to India after his World Tour in 1986.

Trust in life, then you cannot lose anything. But that trust cannot come by indoctrination. That trust cannot come by education, preaching, studying, thinking. That trust can only come by experiencing life in all its opposites, in all its contradictions, in all its paradoxes. When within all the paradoxes you come to the point of balance, there is trust. Trust is the perfume of balance, the fragrance of balance.
